7 Tips for Saving Money on Baby Clothes

!#8# 7 Tips for Saving Money on Baby Clothes

If you're not careful you can spend a fortune on baby clothes. So to help you new parents out I've put together this list of 7 simple ways to save money on baby clothes:

1. Register for what you really need. This gives gift givers an idea of what you're looking for and should eliminate duplicates. Plus some stores, like Babies R Us, will give you a coupon for 10% off all unpurchased items from your registry. So even if you don't expect to get many gifts you can add your favorite outfits just to get the coupon!

2. Accept hand-me-downs. Some people are too proud to accept a freebie but I think that's crazy. We received lots of cute outfits from our friends who have older children and it saved us a boatload of money.

3. Swap baby clothes with another family. Maybe you have a bunch of girl's clothes that your daughter doesn't fit into and they have boy clothes their son has outgrown. Swapping clothes makes everyone happy and you don't have to spend a dime.

4. Garage sales are a great place to find cheap baby clothes. I've seen people offer bins and bins full of barely worn clothes selling for almost nothing. They just want to clear out room in their basement or attic and will give you a great deal.

5. Don't forget to check out eBay and Craigslist. You may have to pay for shipping but you'll save enough to still make it worthwhile. For example, I was researching eBay and saw a brand new 5-pack of Gerber onsies sell for just 99 cents. That same package costs .99 at retail chains so even after paying for shipping you still only paid half!

6. Say no to brand names. I know they have some adorable outfits and they look so well made. But they just aren't worth the expense. For starters they'll often be covered in juice, chocolate, or spit up about ten minutes after you put them on and they suddenly won't look so adorable. Secondly, you won't get much use out of them because your baby will outgrow them so quickly. You're better off skipping the expensive brand names and going with more cost effective options.

7. Go cheap on baby shoes. Once your baby is able to walk around you should invest in some quality footwear for his little feet. But until then it doesn't make sense to spend much. I've seen 3 month old babies with Nike sneakers on. Why? His feet will never touch the ground. As long as his little feet are warm it doesn't really matter what he wears.
